Sport and Recreation at the ACT Election

Through consultation with ACTSPORT members and discussion with both major political parties ACTSPORT has developed a Policy Paper which is designed to help your organisation understand the issues facing the sport and recreation industry and policies recommendations put forward by ACTSPORT.

ACTSPORT is the peak body for the sport and recreation industry in the ACT Region. The organisation has 65 ACT peak sporting and recreation member organisations as well as a number of associate and corporate

$16 MILLION AVAILABLE TO DROUGHT-PROOF ACT SPORT

Yesterday the Minister for Sport and Recreation Andrew Barr opened an Industry Meeting that brought together stakeholders from around ACT concerned with the issue of Drought and its effects on Sporting Facilities.

The meeting held by SRS included detailed presentations from scientists, statisticians and engineers on the progress being made and the future direction of the Where Will We Play initiative. Along with the economic difficulties of running sport in our modern world climate change is of

2008-09 ACT Budget - Sport and Recreation

On the 6 May 2008 the Chief Minister and Treasurer Mr Jon Stanhope handed down the 2008-09 Budget. This Budget delivers a net operating surplus of $84.9 million in 2008-09 while maintaining a net operating surplus in the order of 1.7% per annum across forward years. The Budget also includes ‘Building the Future’ investment of $1 billion in capital works bringing the total capital investment program to almost $1.5 billion.

Junior Sportstar Award May 2008, Jackson Frew – BMX Racing

At the World BMX Championships held recently in Taiyuen, China, Jackson showed that all his training paid off by making it through to the finals of 10Year Boys and winning a World Championship plate – W8, a remarkable achievement for one so young.  Not to be deterred by the worst smog there on record he also rode well on his 24” bike in the Under 12 Boys Cruiser class to gain valuable experience.
