Hopes fade for 2010 Canberra Marathon

ACT Chief Minister Jon Stanhope says it is with enormous regret he has informed the parties in dispute over the ownership and operational rights of The Canberra Marathon that the ACT Government is unable to provide the necessary approvals to allow the event to proceed this year.

The sport, fitness and aquatic sector was not immune from the general economic downturn in 2009 with fewer people working permanent full-time and more working casual or part-time, according to new research published today. Adam Folkard 2009 Sportsman’s Warehouse Sportstar of the Year

Friday 23rd of October saw a first time winner of the Sportsman’s Warehouse Sportstar of the Year awards in Adam Folkard of Softball. Adam was named International Pitcher of the Year after leading Australia to the International Softball Federation XII Men’s World Championship held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (Canada).

 

Adam also combined with the ACT Men’s Open team to win their Fourth consecutive National Title (John Reid Shield) in February. Other winners include 2008 Paralympic Gold Medalli

The 2009 ActewAGL ACT Sport Hall of Fame Induction Luncheon was held on Friday 28th August in the Bradman Room at Manuka Oval.

 

The event was a chance to celebrate and recognise the contribution the 2009 ActewAGL ACT Sport Hall of Fame inductees have made to sport in the ACT and Australia.

Junior Sportstar Award August 2009, Amy Fowler & Angus Moore - Rowing

As a member of the Australian Junior Quad Scull Team, Amy Fowler won silver at the World Junior Rowing Championships in Brive La Gaillarde, France. Fowler's women's quad scull coudn't withstand the charge of the Chinese crew, which led through the last 500m and recorded a 1.5 sec win.
